Privacy Policy – The Haunted Record

Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we don’t, and what lingers.

Effective Date: April 29, 2026

I. A Word Before We Begin

The Haunted Record (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the website hauntedrecord.com and the wra33 Ghost Podcast. We take your privacy as seriously as we take our primary sources — which is to say, very seriously indeed.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. No hidden rooms, no sealed archives. Everything is laid out in the open.

II. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly. When you subscribe to our email list, leave a comment, or contact us, you may provide your name, email address, and any message content you choose to share.

Information collected automatically. When you visit our site, certain data is gathered through cookies and similar technologies:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent, and referring URLs
  • Interactions with site elements such as links, downloads, and podcast players
We do not collect anything you haven’t left behind willingly. Think of it as footprints in an old house — we can see where you’ve walked, but we don’t follow you home.

III. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To deliver and improve our content, including blog posts and podcast episodes
  • To send you newsletters and updates you’ve subscribed to
  • To respond to your messages and inquiries
  • To analyze site traffic and understand how our audience engages with our work
  • To display relevant affiliate product recommendations (see Section V)
  • To maintain site security and prevent abuse

We will never sell your personal information. The dead may not rest, but your data does — securely, and only where we’ve told you it would be.

IV. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies — small text files stored on your device — and similar technologies for analytics, functionality, and advertising purposes. These include:

  • Essential cookies that keep the site functioning (session management, security)
  • Analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) that help us understand visitor behavior in aggregate
  • Affiliate cookies placed by third-party affiliate programs when you click product links

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain site features, but the ghosts will still be here regardless.

V. Affiliate Links & Third-Party Services

The Haunted Record participates in affiliate marketing programs. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. These third-party partners may place their own cookies on your device to track referrals.

Our affiliate partnerships may include, but are not limited to, programs for ghost tours, paranormal equipment, haunted accommodations, streaming services, and books. We only recommend products and services we believe are genuinely relevant to our audience.

We also use third-party services for:

  • Website hosting and content delivery
  • Email marketing and newsletter distribution
  • Podcast hosting and RSS distribution
  • Web analytics

Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them — consider it due diligence, the way we’d review a primary source.

VI. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, or as required by law. Email subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in aggregated, anonymized form.

Unlike the spirits we write about, your data does not have to linger indefinitely. You may request its removal at any time.

VII. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
  • Deletion — request that your data be erased
  • Objection — object to certain types of processing
  • Portability — request your data in a portable format
  • Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for processing at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information in Section X below. We will respond within 30 days or as required by applicable law.

VIII. Children’s Privacy

The Haunted Record is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16, where applicable under GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it promptly.

IX. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal obligations. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Significant changes will be announced on our website. We don’t believe in surprises — at least, not the legal kind.
