Every story begins in an archive.
Court records. Probate filings. Parish registers. Newspaper morgues. Letters written by people who have been dead a hundred years and forgotten for ninety. That is where we start, and that is where we stay. The Haunted Record is built on a simple premise: the history is strange enough on its own.
We name the forgotten. The enslaved cook whose name never made the headlines. The children given two lines in a parish register. The women whose lives were summarized in a single column inch, if they were recorded at all. We read the documents. We follow the evidence wherever it leads, and we stay honest about where it stops.
We don’t tell you what to believe about ghosts. We’re agnostic on the question, and we intend to stay that way. What we won’t do is pretend the record needs help to be unsettling. It doesn’t. The archive is the haunting. The footnotes are the horror.
Whether or not you believe in ghosts, the history behind the stories is worth knowing. The names are worth saying out loud. That’s what the blog, the field guides, and the case files are for — the documented history behind the legends, sourced and named, published for anyone willing to sit with it.
WRA33 Ghost Radio, is a work of fiction, built from the real cases we research. On air, the dead don’t wait to be found — they call in. They tell their stories in their own words, on their own terms, to a host known only as The Archivist. It’s an old-time radio drama, not a documentary, and we’ll always tell you which one you’re listening to. But the bones of every episode are real: real names, real dates, real documents, dramatized into a phone call across a line that shouldn’t exist. Fiction, built on fact — never the other way around.
What comes next…The same cases that fill the blog and the broadcast are, in time, becoming something longer — full fiction, under the Mina Hale byline, for readers who want to live inside these histories rather than just visit them. Same names. Same sources. A different kind of room to tell them in.
Dead is So Alive.
